Florida’s east coast has never known for its tuna fishery, but all that changed in the last few years. Blackfin tuna are the most popular tuna in this area. In the past these fish barely reached 5 pounds. But as of late its not uncommon to catch them between 5 and thirty pounds. Blackfin don’t grow much larger than 30 pounds. The larger tunas are caught during the winter and spring while fishing with live bait. We also catch many blackfin while trolling baits well back from the boat. Yellowfin tuna occasionally have made a showing here for a couple weeks during the spring. Tuna prefer deeper waters of 300 to0 500 feet which is only 3 to 5 miles offshore of Palm Beach
